The heat exchanger transfers the heat from the exhaust gases destined for a chimney to a liquid (water, water-glycol solutions or oil). The heated liquid can be used in other applications such as preheating of feed water in steam boilers, heating of potable water or process fluids (technical water, thermal oil). Indirectly it can heat the air for the combustion chambers of ovens and turbines, to dry cereals, pulpwood, and other materials. Specific modules can reduce the temperature of the exhaust gases below the dew point, condensing the vapors and recovering the latent heat. The choice of materials and design is made according to the performance and conditions indicated by the customer.

The DAV Pillow economizers get very little dirty and are easy to clean, but if it becomes necessary to replace them or carry out extraordinary maintenance, no problem! The economizers have a removable cartridge heat exchanger. They can therefore be removed without involving the structure or modifying flue connections and insulation. Faster, simpler and, if combined with a by-pass, no interruption to production.

  • Do you need to carry out maintenance on the heat exchanger, but cannot stop the flow of exhausted fumes?
  • In some periods of the year you cannot reuse the energy recovered by the economizer?
  • In the event of a blackout, how do you protect the heat exchanger from overheating?
  • Do you have to modulate the quantity of fumes that pass through the exchanger to have a constant temperature of the primary fluid?

In these and many other cases, it may be useful not to let the hot fumes flow through the exchanger.

The solution is the installation of an integral by-pass: no added ducting, very small overall dimensions and a single (on request modulating) servo-motor, with emergency spring.

DAV Pillow economizers are inserted into rectangular or circular frames. To adapt it to the existing smoke channels, the exchangers will be equipped with the necessary duct transitions.

Pillow plates are made of strong materials such as stainless steel, which offers greater resistance to corrosion and thermal deformation than copper, carbon steel or aluminum fin tubes, resulting in a longer service lifetime even in harsh and demanding operating environments.

Pillow plates have a compact footprint, allowing for space savings compared to straight tubes. This is particularly advantageous when available space is limited, allowing for greater flexibility in installation and integration within existing industrial setups.

The particular structure of the pillow plate provides a larger and more continuous heat exchange surface compared to smooth tubes. This leads to a better heat transfer efficiency since it allows a more direct contact between the hot exhaust gases and the cold fluid, ensuring better energy recovery and an increase in the overall efficiency of the system.

The absence of internal tubes in pillow plate economizers reduces the risk of fouling caused by the accumulation of impurities or deposits on the tube surfaces. This results in less maintenance and less downtime, ensuring efficient operation of the economizer over the long term.

Pillow plate economizers have lower pressure drops on the heat exchange surface than plain tubes. This results in lower energy consumption for fluid circulation, contributing to further energy savings throughout the system.
