Pillow Plates

Designed and customized to revolutionize and expand solutions applicable to gas-to-gas, gas-to-liquid and liquid-to-liquid heat transfer processes. Pillow plates: fully welded plate panels, with the characteristic “pillow” surface. The corrugation of the channels promotes better mixing of fluids, resulting in optimal heat transfer efficiency. Made from a variety of noble materials such as stainless steel, Ni-Cr alloy or titanium, the DAV Pillows guarantee durability and longevity in the harshest industrial environments.

How it is made

How it is made

DAV Pillows are made by precisely joining two metal plates using CNC programmed laser welders. Once welded together, they are inflated, creating the cavity in which the cooling or heating fluids flow, be they liquids, steam or refrigerant gas. The second fluid instead flows outside the plate, exchanging heat with the one inside.

Only one plate out of two is inflated, leaving the other surface perfectly flat and smooth.
This solution is indicated in applications for milk tanks cooling, or heating or cooling applications in the food, pharmaceutical and sanitary industries in general. These plates can be clamped on existing tanks or be built directly into the tank walls for increased efficiency.

Both plates have similar thicknesses, so they inflate and expande symmetrically on both sides. This solution is used in applications where the exchanger is immersed, applied to the outside of tanks (clamp-on jacket), energy recovery (economizers) or refrigeration applications (Ice Storage, Falling Film Chiller, Ice Machine and Immersion Chillers).

Dirty fluids

Compared to finned tube or smooth tube heat exchangers, PPHE (Pillow plate Heat exchanger) solutions are substantially free of the traditional limitations posed by extreme fouling and sedimentation factors. They are therefore ideal for handling oily, sticky, dusty, abrasive or sediment-laden fluids. It is the definitive solution for recovering heat from heavily contaminated fumes (think of incinerators or waste water purifiers) or abrasive environments (such as glassworks). Additionally, it excels at indirect heat exchange within tanks for food and beverage processes.

Cleaning

One of the main strengths of the pillow plate solution is the ease of cleaning. The flat surface of the plates allows for effortless cleaning using steam jets or high-pressure cleaners, resulting in minimal maintenance requirements and reduced costs.

Engineering

Thanks to the calculation models developed in collaboration with engineering universities, we are able to carry out sizing with countless types of fluids and gases. The datasheets, complete with all the necessary parameters, allow the creation of pillow plate-based systems for industrial plants, achieving the heat exchange objectives of the carrier fluid as per customer specifications.

Fluidi sporchi

Rispetto agli scambiatori di calore a tubi alettati o a tubi lisci, le soluzioni PPHE (Pillow Plate Heat exchanger) sono sostanzialmente prive delle tradizionali limitazioni poste da fattori estremi di incrostazione e sedimentazione. Sono quindi ideali nella gestione di fluidi oleosi, appiccicosi, polverosi, abrasivi o carichi di sedimenti. È la soluzione definitiva per il recupero del calore da fumi fortemente contaminati (si pensi agli inceneritori o depuratori di acque reflue) o ambienti abrasivi (come le vetrerie). Inoltre, eccelle nello scambio termico indiretto all’interno dei serbatoi per i processi alimentari e delle bevande.

Pulizia

Una dei rincipali punti di forza della soluzione pillow plate è la facilità di pulizia. La superficie piana delle piastre consente una semplice ed efficace pulizia mediante getti di vapore, idropulitrici o onde sonore, con conseguenti minime esigenze di manutenzione e costi ridotti.
